Finding What Works for My Skin: What I’ll Track for One Month

Here’s something I’ve come to believe after years of trial and error: you can’t find what works for your skin by reading reviews. You find it by watching your own skin, closely, over time. So I’m setting myself a simple challenge — one month of honest tracking. No miracle expectations. Just paying attention, writing it down, and letting my own skin tell me the truth. Here’s my plan, and you’re welcome to do it alongside me.

Why one month?

Skin doesn’t change overnight. Cell turnover takes about a month, and most real results — fading spots, a calmer barrier, less dryness — show up over weeks, not days. One month is long enough to see honest patterns, and short enough to actually stick with. It’s the sweet spot.

What I’ll track every day

I’m keeping it simple, because a plan too complicated to follow is useless. Each day, just a quick note on:

  • How my skin feels — tight, comfortable, oily, dry? One or two words is enough.
  • What I did outdoors — golf, swim, walk, or an indoor day. This is huge for me, since my activity drives so much of my skin’s behavior.
  • What I used — the products that day, nothing fancy, just the list.
  • Anything unusual — a breakout, new redness, a surprisingly good skin day.

That’s it. Two minutes before bed.

What I’m watching for over the month

At the end of the month, I’ll look back for patterns I could never catch day to day:

  • Which activities stress my skin most — and what helped it recover
  • Which products my skin was consistently happy with — the quiet winners
  • What actually triggered dryness or redness — so I can avoid it
  • Whether my dark spots held steady — my ongoing goal is “no worse”

The magic isn’t in any single day. It’s in seeing the pattern across thirty of them.

The rules I’m giving myself

To keep it honest and doable:

  • Don’t change everything at once. If I switch ten things, I’ll never know what worked. I change one thing at a time.
  • Be honest, even when it’s boring. “Skin fine, did nothing special” is a valid, useful entry.
  • Don’t quit after a bad skin day. One rough day is data, not failure.
  • Keep it short. A sustainable two-minute note beats a perfect journal I abandon in a week.

Join me if you like

If you’ve been frustrated trying to figure out your own skin, try this with me. One month. A two-minute note each night. At the end, your own skin will have told you more than any product review ever could. That’s the whole heart of this diary — not chasing the next miracle, but learning to read what my own skin has been telling me all along.

I’ll report back on what I find. Let’s see what a month of honest attention can teach us.
